Situs Sponsors Animal Adoptions

PRESS RELEASE - Human Society and SITUS Team Up to Save Eighteen Animals

The Darlington County Humane Society and the Situs Group teamed up for an adoption event held at Emmanuel Christian School’s annual booster club bazaar on Saturday, November 8th. Eighteen cats and dogs were adopted into new homes! The average number of adoptions for an event of this type is 5-6. What makes this truly exciting is that it increased the number of animals that will survive. 85% of all animals that are brought into the shelter are put to sleep, and 4000 animals were brought into the shelter in 2007. Situs sponsored the full amount of the adoptions which is $60 for dogs and $40 for cats. Incidentally, for those of you considering getting a pet, this fee is actually a wonderful value as it includes the spay/neuter procedure ($90-120 alone for a dog!), heart worm or FIV test, and the first vaccination.

The event would not have been successful without the efforts of fifteen volunteers from both organizations. Kathy McDonald, the volunteer coordinator for the Humane Society said, “It was great to take all of those empty crates back to the shelter knowing that eighteen animals went home with families who would love and care for them. We are so grateful to Situs for working with us to give these animals a chance.” For information regarding adoptions or volunteering call the Humane Society at 398-4402 or email Kathy at KRMCDON@Bellsouth.net.
