What IS Hardiplank?

First, what is Hardiplank made of? It's true name is "Fiber-cement Siding," which means that it is a combination of cellulose fibers along with cement-like materials. In other words, it's partly wood, partly cement. Break a piece of Hardiplank and inside you will see a brittle core interlaced with wood fibers. Hardiplank has the following characteristics:

  • It is a "Green" building material considered favorable for the environment.
  • It lasts a long time. Hardiplank is warrantied for 50 years, but can last longer with proper maintenance.
  • It is fire resistant (Not fireproof).
  • It looks like wood and is easily painted.
  • It costs somewhere between vinyl siding and brick.
